Wellington's Sushi Day is an event where our community can show support for Japanese earthquake victims in their time of need. The Great East Japan earthquake and tsunami of 11 March left parts of Japan devastated, and thousands of survivors without homes, jobs, and safety. Local community groups and sponsors wish to raise money to extend help to survivors. Our fundraising will also acknowledge Japan's friendship and support to New Zealander the wake of the Christchurch earthquake, where Wellington's sister city, Sakai, donated thousands of dollars, and the Japanese Government was quick to send an emergency response team. Aim: to raise the funds for Japanese Tsunami & Earthquake Additional information: A Taiko team will performance at Midland Park and Civic Square. And all regional mayors will support the event by eating Sushi at their delegated meetings on the 30th. Please contact the Wellington City Council for media information. |
